SEXUAL CONDUCT POLICY STATEMENT

We believe that God has created us male or female and as such we are sexual beings. Our sexuality is intended by God to be a good thing, and it usually is experienced as such when we express it in ways intended by God. However, we also know that we can use our sexuality in ways that are inappropriate and even destructive to ourselves and to others. In fact we are learning that sexual misconduct is much more prevalent at home, in the work place, at schools and even in our churches than we usually want to admit. With this in mind the Session of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church wants you to know that our policy regarding sexual conduct while on church property or during any activities sponsored by the church is as follows:

1. It is the policy of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church that all church members, all nonmember employees/volunteers are well as all adults working with groups using the church building are to maintain the integrity of person to person relationships at all times.

2. Sexual misconduct includes verbal and physical molestation of children as well as any unwanted verbal harassment and sexual contact with adults that is in violation of the laws of the State of Kansas.

3. Sexual misconduct is a violation of all person to person relationships and is never permissible and will not be tolerated. Issues regarding sexual misconduct shall be reported immediately to the Session through its Personnel Committee. Any and all violations of the laws of the State of Kansas will be reported immediately to the District Attorney’s office.

It is part of God’s plan and our response to God’s love and grace that each of God’s children be nurtured in faith and love. Children cannot grow in faith and know God’ s love and grace when they are victims of child abuse.
